What is Slacked?

Slack is an online tool that centralizes team communications, placing messages and files all in one place. Slack encourages team collaboration and is designed with the 21st century mobile office in mind.

How does it work?

Slack is like a chatroom for all the church teams. It has three methods of communication:

• Channels

  Channels are open conversations that anyone on the team can view or join. You can set up channels for certain projects, topics, or teams, and it provides a discussion board where your team can work together.

• Private channels

  These are channels where only a few team members can participate through the invitation of the channel creator. This provides a group discussion designed for privacy to discuss sensitive issues or conversations that your entire staff does not need to see. For example, the Worship Team and Deacons will have their own private channels that only those members can see.

• Direct messages

  Through direct messages, your team members can message one another privately, very much like text messaging.

What are some of the advantages of Slack?

• Slack prevents vital communication from being lost in the clutter of email inboxes.
• Slack encourages team collaboration and eliminates the need for email among your team and the annoyance of CC and BCC emails.
• Slack provides a great way to share files and work collaboratively with your team. Sharing from Google Drive, Dropbox, or other platforms is as simple as pasting the link to the file.
• Slack allows you to search through your message history, so that you can find anything you need fast!
• Slack is multi-platform. Whether you are on a Mac or PC, iPhone or Android, you can set up Slack on your devices.
• Slack offers an excellent free plan that will meet the needs of our church.

How do I use Slack?

You will receive a link from an Administrator. Click on that link to complete the sign-up process, and you will be taken directly to our Slack home on the web (http://gracefreechurch.slack.com).

Then you can download the apps for your computer and phone as needed. Be sure to turn on notifications so you get alerted when you have a new message in Slack.

Slack behaves very much like text messaging, so it’s easy to get the hang of it.

OnSong

OnSong replaces the mess of paper and binders with interactive chord charts and sheet music on your iPad, iPhone, or iPod touch. All of our charts will be provided as OnSong files in advance so you can rehearse at home.

OnSong also gives us the ability to instantly transpose songs into any key, and also calculates capo positions for guitar. You can also add a foot pedal to flip between sections and songs without taking your hands or focus off your music.

OnSong is required for all musicians.
